PAK PANEL is a free, data-light utility page for everyday life in Pakistan. It gathers four things people search for daily: bijli — load-shedding schedule and complaint links for every distribution company from LESCO to K-Electric, plus live temperatures for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad (heat drives shedding); paisa — live mid-market USD, SAR, AED and GBP rates against the Pakistani rupee, a converter, and a remittance true-cost calculator that exposes the hidden exchange-rate margin; results & ID — result-check methods for all 24 intermediate and secondary education boards, NADRA CNIC fees and timelines, and passport tracking; and USSD — quick codes for Jazz, Telenor, Zong and Ufone. The interface works in English and Urdu (RTL), installs nothing, and runs fine on old phones and slow connections.
Two houses a hundred metres apart can have opposite schedules because electricity is shed per feeder — the medium-voltage line leaving a grid station — not per neighbourhood. Your feeder is grouped with others into a rotation plan, so "Group A off 10–12" applies only to streets wired to that feeder. Feeders serving hospitals, airports or industrial estates are often exempt, which is why a street sharing a feeder with a hospital rarely goes dark. Finally, DISCOs apply heavier shedding to high-loss feeders: where aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses — theft, unpaid bills, leaky wires — are high, the feeder is scheduled for more hours off. Knowing your feeder name (printed on your bill or available from your DISCO complaint office) is the key to reading any schedule.
A practical reading of your electricity bill helps here: the reference number's first block usually encodes your sub-division, the "feeder" or "batch" field names the line you hang off, and the tariff code (A-1 residential, A-2 commercial, B industrial) hints at whether your feeder mixes exempt industrial load with homes. When you call 118 or file an online complaint, quoting the feeder name gets you a meaningful answer — "your feeder is on forced shedding for losses" or "there is a fault, crew dispatched" — instead of a generic promise. During announced shortfalls, urban feeders commonly see two to six hours off per day and high-loss rural feeders more; unannounced outages beyond the schedule are usually faults, which are worth reporting because fault statistics feed into how DISCOs prioritise maintenance.
Ten public DISCOs plus privately-run K-Electric cover the country. Each publishes its own schedules and complaint channels; the national helpline 118 reaches most complaint centres:
| Company | Region | Official site |
|---|---|---|
| LESCO | Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura | lesco.gov.pk |
| K-Electric | Karachi (generation to retail, private) | ke.com.pk |
| IESCO | Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal | iesco.com.pk |
| GEPCO | Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal | gepco.com.pk |
| FESCO | Faisalabad, Jhang, T.T. Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali | fesco.com.pk |
| MEPCO | Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Sahiwal — south Punjab | mepco.com.pk |
| PESCO | Peshawar and most of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa | pesco.gov.pk |
| HESCO | Hyderabad and lower Sindh | hesco.gov.pk |
| QESCO | Quetta and Balochistan | qesco.com.pk |
| SEPCO | Sukkur, Larkana — upper Sindh | sepco.com.pk |
Domains occasionally change during government reorganisations — if a link fails, search the company name plus "official".
Load-shedding is a gap problem: when demand exceeds what generation and transmission can deliver, DISCOs cut feeders in rotation to keep the grid from collapsing. Demand in Pakistan is brutally weather-driven — every extra degree above roughly 35 °C pushes millions of fans, air-coolers and ACs harder, and evening peaks in a June heatwave can exceed winter demand by thousands of megawatts. That is why the panel shows live temperatures for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad next to the DISCO directory: a 45 °C forecast in Punjab is a reliable early warning of longer outages, especially on high-loss rural feeders that get shed first. Hydel output (snow-melt dependent), fuel imports and transmission faults move the gap too, so schedules can change the same day they are published.
Matric (SSC) and Intermediate (HSSC) results are issued by regional Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE). Check results on the board's official site with your roll number; many Punjab boards also run SMS gateways (roll number to a shortcode — codes change between years, so treat them as verify before use):

On result day the official board sites often crash under load — that is when fake "result checker" sites harvest traffic. Three rules keep you safe. First, results are free: no legitimate board charges to display a result, so any site or SMS demanding payment is a scam. Second, prefer the board's own domain (listed above) or its official SMS shortcode over third-party portals, which sometimes show stale or wrong marks. Third, gazette PDFs published by boards are the authoritative record — if a website result conflicts with your printed result card or the gazette, the board office decides. If a site is down, wait thirty minutes rather than typing your roll number into an unknown mirror; several boards also announce mirrors on their verified social accounts.
NADRA issues the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC/Smart NIC) at 18. Fees below are indicative — NADRA revises them periodically, so confirm at nadra.gov.pk or a NADRA Registration Centre before paying anyone:
| Service | Normal | Urgent | Executive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart NIC — new / reissue (fee, PKR) | ~750 | ~1,500 | ~2,500 |
| Smart NIC — modification (fee, PKR) | ~750 | ~1,500 | ~2,500 |
| Typical delivery time | ~31 working days | ~9–12 working days | ~5–7 working days |
First-time CNICs in the normal category have at times been issued free under government policy — ask at the counter. Common reasons applications stall or get rejected: parents' records not digitised or mismatched (fix the family tree first), blurred or old photographs, unverified supporting documents (B-form, marriage certificate), pending verification against a blocked family record, and name spellings that differ across documents. Track your application with the tracking ID on your receipt, and never pay "agents" outside the centre — every fee is payable only at the official counter or e-Sahulat franchise.
Machine-readable and e-passports are issued by the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGIP), a separate body from NADRA — you need a valid CNIC first. Apply at a regional passport office or through the DGIP online portal, pay the fee at National Bank or online, and keep the token: it carries your tracking number. Status can be checked on the DGIP site (dgip.gov.pk) with that number. Processing categories mirror NADRA's normal/urgent/fast-track split and fees depend on validity (5 or 10 years) and page count — check the current schedule on the official fee page rather than third-party summaries, which age quickly. Renewals with an unchanged CNIC are usually the fastest route.
Pakistan effectively has three dollar prices. The interbank rate is what banks quote each other and is what applies to your bank remittance or card settlement; the State Bank publishes reference rates daily. The open-market rate is what licensed exchange companies quote for physical cash — usually a few rupees weaker, because cash carries handling cost and demand swings. The hundi/hawala rate often looks best of all, but it is an illegal informal transfer channel under Pakistani law: money moves through unregistered brokers, there is no receipt or recourse if it vanishes, and it starves the country of documented foreign exchange. Legal channels have improved — banks and licensed apps route through the Pakistan Remittance Initiative, and overseas Pakistanis can hold Roshan Digital Accounts with repatriable balances. This page shows only the mid-market reference rate.
Remittance providers advertise "zero fee" while taking their margin inside the exchange rate. The honest comparison is: multiply what you send by the mid-market rate to get the fair value, then compare it with what the recipient actually gets after the provider's rate and fee. That difference, expressed as a percentage, is the true cost — the calculator in the PAISA tab does this arithmetic for you. For USD→PKR corridors a total cost under 3% is good; over 5% means shop around. Sending on weekdays, in larger amounts, and to a bank account or wallet (rather than cash pickup) usually lowers the percentage. Always compare at least two providers on the same day, because rates move daily and promotions change the ranking week to week.
A worked example: you send USD 300, the provider charges a USD 3 fee and offers 272 when the mid-market rate is 278. Fair value is 300 × 278 = 83,400 PKR; the recipient actually gets (300 − 3) × 272 = 80,784 PKR. The gap of 2,616 PKR is 3.1% — despite the "low fee", most of the cost sat in the rate. Run the same arithmetic on every quote and the cheapest provider is obvious. The PAISA tab's calculator colour-codes the result: green under 3%, amber to 5%, red above. Remittances sent through banks and licensed operators also count toward Pakistan Remittance Initiative incentives, and consistent formal-channel senders build the paper trail needed for things like Roshan Digital Account facilities and remittance-backed financing.
Every DISCO bill carries a 14-digit reference number, and that number is all you need to fetch a duplicate bill or pay from a phone. Duplicate bills are downloadable from each DISCO's website (and most are also on the unified bill.pitc.com.pk family of portals run by PITC, the power sector's IT arm). For payment, the same reference works in mobile-wallet apps (JazzCash, Easypaisa), bank apps via the 1Bill/1Link utility option, ATMs, and bank counters — no agent markup is justified for any of these. Pay a day or two before the due date: bank-channel payments can post overnight, and a payment that posts after the due date attracts the late-payment surcharge printed on the bill. Keep the transaction ID until the next bill confirms the credit; if a paid bill shows as unpaid, the complaint office fixes it against that ID.
USSD codes work on any handset with no data. Operators do change codes and per-check charges, so if one fails, dial the operator's main menu or use the official app. Never share codes sent to you by strangers:
| Action | Jazz | Telenor | Zong | Ufone |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Balance check | *111# | *444# | *222# | *124# |
| Recharge card | *123*code# | *555*code# | *102*code# | *123*code# |
| Packages menu | *444# | *345# | *6464# | *3# |
| Own number check | *99# | *8888# | *8# | *780*3# |
Codes compiled 2026-07 and can change without notice; small balance-check fees may apply. Confirm with your operator if a code fails.
Beyond the basics, each operator keeps a handful of service codes worth knowing: advance/loan balance (Jazz *112#, Telenor *0#, Zong *911#, Ufone *456#), and internet/data balance menus reachable from the main packages code. Two national codes are operator-independent: 668#-style SIM-info services change often, but *8484# has been used for biometric SIM verification campaigns and PTA's 0800-55055 helpline handles complaints against any operator. If you receive a call or SMS asking you to dial a code "to receive a prize" — that is a call-forwarding scam; never dial codes strangers send you, and never share one-time PINs.
Households that plan around the schedule lose far less to outages than those that react to them. Charge phones, power banks and UPS batteries during on-hours, not after the lights go out — a UPS that starts a cut half-charged will not last it. Freeze bottles of water: moved into the fridge compartment during a cut, they hold the temperature for hours and cost nothing. If you run a UPS or inverter, size it honestly (fans and lights, not the iron or the water pump) and check battery electrolyte monthly in summer; heat kills lead-acid batteries faster than cycling does. Solar with net-metering has become the structural answer for many families — NEPRA-licensed installers handle the DISCO paperwork — but even a small panel that floats the UPS battery through the day changes the economics. Finally, report every unscheduled outage: faults that go unreported never make it into the maintenance queue.
How do I check my matric or inter result by SMS? Punjab boards typically accept your roll number by SMS to a shortcode (BISE Lahore has used 80029, FBISE 5050). Shortcodes change between sessions — confirm the current code on your board's official site before sending, and note standard SMS charges apply.
Why does the next street have bijli when mine doesn't? Shedding is applied per feeder, not per area. Your neighbour may be on a different feeder, an exempt feeder (hospital/industry), or a lower-loss feeder with fewer scheduled hours. Your feeder name is on your electricity bill.
How much does a new CNIC cost? Indicatively around PKR 750 normal, 1,500 urgent and 2,500 executive for a Smart NIC, with first-time normal issuance sometimes free by policy. NADRA revises fees, so treat these as ballpark figures and confirm at nadra.gov.pk.
Is the open-market rate on this page? No. The page shows the mid-market reference rate from open.er-api.com. Cash rates at exchange companies will differ, and hundi/hawala quotes — however attractive — are illegal channels with no recourse.
Are the USSD codes guaranteed? No — operators change codes and fees. The tables were compiled in July 2026 and each carries a "verify" caution; the operator's own app or helpline is always authoritative.
Does PAK PANEL store my data? No accounts and no server storage. Language and tab preferences live only in your browser's localStorage; nothing you type in the terminal leaves the page.
How do I track my passport application? Use the tracking/token number printed on your payment receipt on the DGIP online portal (onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk) or the main DGIP site. Passports are issued by DGIP, not NADRA — but you need a valid CNIC before applying.
Which emergency and helpline numbers should I save? Police 15, Rescue 1122 (ambulance/fire in most districts), Edhi 115, Motorway Police 130, NADRA helpline 1777 (from mobiles in Pakistan), PTA telecom complaints 0800-55055, and the power complaint line 118 for most DISCOs.

Editorial note: all directory entries, fees and codes on this page were compiled and cross-checked against official portals in July 2026. Government domains, SMS shortcodes and fee schedules in Pakistan change without much notice — entries marked verify are the ones most likely to drift. Nothing here is legal or financial advice.
